Atrial Fibrillation Research
In 2020, The Antonov Foundation donated to the
UCSF Center for Prevention of Heart and Vascular Disease
to support their research on finding mechanisms through which aging "wear and tear" lead to atrial fibrillation (AFib) and sinus node dysfunction (SND).
AFib and SND are the most commonly encountered heart rhythm syndromes related to structural and functional remodeling of the atria. As our population ages, they become the most common causes of stroke, heart failure, and pacemaker implants, making “atrial disease” a major public health challenge.
